In a competitive compact SUV market, the 2025 Dongfeng AX7 offers an impressive package that blends style, performance, and safety. Aimed at drivers who seek sophistication without sacrificing practicality, the AX7 is a standout contender in the urban and highway driving segments. This SUV excels in daily commutes and long-distance drives, offering an enjoyable and comfortable driving experience.
Performance and Powertrain: Turbocharged Efficiency
The heart of the 2025 Dongfeng AX7 lies in its 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder Mach Power engine, delivering an impressive 188 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 300 Nm of torque between 2000-4000 rpm. This engine provides more than enough power for city driving and highway cruising, ensuring smooth acceleration and effortless overtaking. The addition of a 7-speed wet double-clutch transmission ensures seamless gear shifts, enhancing both performance and fuel efficiency.
Driving the AX7 is an experience that blends comfort with responsiveness. The MacPherson independent suspension at the front and double wishbone independent suspension at the rear provide a stable, controlled ride, even over uneven road surfaces. The electric power steering (EPS) system offers responsive handling, making it a joy to navigate city streets or long highways.
Fuel Efficiency: A Frugal Companion
One of the standout features of the AX7 is its fuel efficiency. With an average consumption of 6.6 L/100 km, the AX7 offers impressive range for both daily commuting and weekend road trips. Its 60L fuel tank allows for fewer stops at the pump, which is a welcome advantage for drivers who often hit the road. Additionally, the AX7 is equipped with four drive modes — Sport, Eco, Comfort, and Snow — giving drivers the flexibility to adapt throttle response, transmission shift points, and steering feedback to their driving conditions and preferences.
Interior and Technology: A High-Tech Haven
Step inside the Dongfeng AX7, and it’s clear that this SUV is designed with the modern driver in mind. The 12.3-inch HD touchscreen sits at the heart of the cabin, offering access to a wide range of infotainment options, including Bluetooth and USB connectivity, as well as smartphone integration via mobile screen projection. Higher trims offer wireless charging, ensuring you stay powered up while on the move.
The cabin’s design is both sleek and functional, with a radiant Astrolabe ambient lamp adding a touch of sophistication to the interior. The 7-inch instrument cluster displays critical driving information at a glance, ensuring that you always have the data you need within easy reach.
The high-quality materials used throughout the cabin create a premium feel, while the spacious layout ensures ample legroom for all passengers. The SUV comfortably seats five people, and the driver’s seat features 6-way electric adjustment, allowing for a customized seating position.
Safety Features: Comprehensive Protection
The 2025 Dongfeng AX7 places a strong emphasis on safety, which is crucial for today’s drivers. It comes equipped with a full suite of active and passive safety features, including dual front and side airbags, and head curtain airbags (available in higher trims). The electronic parking brake with auto-hold functionality is a nice touch, especially when parked on an incline, providing added convenience and safety.
The braking system is robust, with ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear, ensuring reliable stopping power. Safety features like anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist, electronic stability control, and tire pressure monitoring all contribute to a safer driving experience. In higher trims, the 360° camera system offers full visibility around the vehicle, further enhancing the safety of both the driver and passengers.
Exterior Design: Sleek, Modern, and Functional
The 2025 AX7 has a modern, sleek design that stands out in the crowded compact SUV market. With dimensions of 4660mm in length, 1880mm in width, and 1690mm in height, the AX7 offers a spacious interior while maintaining an agile footprint, ideal for navigating urban environments.
The SUV features either 18-inch or 19-inch wheels, depending on the trim, and automatic LED headlamps that adjust for optimal visibility. LED daytime running lamps, a panoramic sunroof, and a stylish digital storm grille complete the exterior, giving the AX7 a bold and contemporary look.
Comfort and Convenience: A Relaxing Ride for All
Inside the AX7, comfort is a key focus. The cabin boasts leather seats, ample legroom, and a spacious layout that ensures all passengers travel in comfort. The automatic air conditioning system, along with a rear AC vent, keeps the cabin cool and comfortable in all weather conditions. A 60L boot capacity further enhances its practicality, providing plenty of room for luggage, groceries, or larger items.
The 6-way electric driver’s seat adjustment and D-type sports leather steering wheel add to the premium, sporty feel of the interior. The electronic gear shift ensures smooth and effortless gear changes, and the cabin is meticulously designed to offer both functionality and elegance.
The Verdict: Setting a New Standard in the Compact SUV Segment
The 2025 Dongfeng AX7 is a well-rounded compact SUV that stands out for its performance, technology, and safety features. While it may not be built for off-roading, the AX7 excels on urban streets and highways, offering a refined and comfortable driving experience.
